Improve legal knowledge about monitoring and protecting water environment in the community

In May 2019, the Center for Water Resources Conservation and Development (WARECOD) in collaboration with the Women's Union of Long Phu District, Soc Trang Province and the Women's Union of Dong Hai Commune, Duyen Hai District organized a training course to Improve legal knowledge about monitoring and protecting water environment for community groups.
Two community groups include (i) Water environment monitoring group in Long Phu commune, Soc Trang province and (ii) Environmental protection community group in Dong Hai commune, Duyen Hai district, Tra Vinh province.
The training courses took place at the People's Committee of Long Phu District, Soc Trang Province and at the cultural house of Con Cu Hamlet, Dong Hai Commune. Lecturers of the training courses are Assoc. Dr. Le Anh Tuan - Deputy Director of Climate Change Research Institute, Can Tho University, law experts. The training was attended by local government leaders and the Women's Union of Long Phu District, Long Phu Commune and Dong Hai Commune with members of local community groups.
Opening training on law, Assoc. Dr. Le Anh Tuan gave a presentation on the impact of climate change, environmental change and development projects on life in general and the Mekong Delta in particular. At the same time, the speech also mentioned the implementation of smart solutions to adapt to climate change, including the use of clean energy to help protect the environment, production and sustainable consumption.
The training course helps participants improve their understanding of law and law compliance thereby promoting law enforcement. Training on rights and obligations of stakeholders in solving local problems; for example, the 2013 Constitution, the Law on Access to Information 2016, the Law on Organization of Local Governments 2015 or the Ordinance on the Implementation of Democracy in Communes 2007.
Finally, to better understand the content of the training and how to do it, the community proposed the situation and conducted a group discussion. At each training class, people were divided into 03 groups, together to identify the problem, find the cause. They then formulate steps to connect with relevant agencies and local authorities to receive support to solve problems in accordance with the law. After the training, the community groups were more confident and proactive in the activities of monitoring and protecting the local water environment.
